Cracked Headplate

If your beloved saddle suddenly, if gradually, seems too wide, if you no longer have enough either clearance, if you’ve added an extra fleece half pad and it’s still not right – start suspecting a damaged headplate. Try leaning on the tree point and seeing if it bends. Feel how much it flexes one side versus the other. Feel how much it flexes compared to another similar saddle. A cracked headplate isn’t necessarily a death sentence for your saddle, in fact it can be simple and affordable to simply rivet a new one in.
